You don’t have to be in Chinatown to find good dim sum no matter where you stay in the city, you’ll still be able to satisfy your dim sum cravings with her guide.Ĭheck out other restaurants, along with some of her favorite dishes from each below. She came up with a list highlighting dim sum places in all of San Francisco. On her quest across the city, Hang Ah Teahouse was not the only dim sum place Michelle found to recommend to guests. “I’m so excited to refer to my future guests a piece of my culture and identity: dim sum and where to get the best in town!” “You go to the place where there are long lines, but you just don’t quite know why it is so,” he says about finding places to eat in new cities. In addition to owning Hang Ah, Frank is also an avid traveler who loves dining at the best local food joints he can find on trips. “Instead, we try to educate our foreign friends about the traditional Cantonese cuisine served here.” “We do not ‘Americanize’ our menu,” Frank proudly says. (Fun fact: The BBQ pork buns happen to be Frank’s favorite dim sum dish.)īut history is not the only thing this charming teahouse has held onto for all these years: Frank is proud that the shop’s dim sum menus have remained authentic from when the doors first opened. “Locals from 50 years to now know Hang Ah for its light and airy, soft and saucy, and-most importantly-kids-approved BBQ pork buns,” he says. Michelle samples Hang Ah’s authentic dim sum Hang Ah’s owner, Frank, says Michelle isn’t alone-almost all diners can feel the restaurant’s history as soon as they walk through the door. “When I first set foot in Hang Ah, I felt like I was being transported back in time,” Michelle says. The restaurant, Hang Ah Teahouse, turned out to be famous: Known as the oldest dim sum restaurant in America, the teahouse has been a local hub for Chinese-American cultural exchange for nearly 100 years. Soon after her mission began, Michelle stumbled upon what she describes as “an adorable little shop in the middle of an alley,” in the City’s bustling Chinatown. Michelle thought, “Wouldn’t it be fun to explore every corner of the neighborhood and find the most authentic Dim Sum restaurants in town?” She began running her own personal culinary exploration, journeying around the City to discover the best dim sum places in town. And Michelle wants each one of her guests to get the best possible experience during their time in San Francisco-so, she set out to solve her problem. Michelle knows that guests take her recommendations seriously: A recent study showed that 60 percent of Airbnb guests in San Francisco say they visited local businesses based on their host’s recommendation. Michelle loves dim sum, but when guests asked her to point them towards the best places to get authentic dim sum in San Francisco, she didn’t know where to send them. Varieties range in flavor from savory to sweet, and the dish can be served steamed, baked, or fried. Dim sum is a traditional Cantonese cuisine, describing the practice of having tea, “yum cha,” along with small bites served in bamboo baskets or on small plates. But Michelle realized her recommendation list was blank when it came to a certain dish: dim sum. Michelle, a self-described foodie, grew up in a house where ginger, soy sauce, and chopsticks were staples in her mother’s kitchen, sparking a lifelong appreciation for delicately prepared, authentic Chinese cuisine. One of her favorite parts of hosting is sharing her favorite restaurants with guests. But for Michelle, hosting is more than just a way to cover the bills-she enjoys getting to meet new people, make new friends, and show off the aspects of San Francisco that first made her fall in love with the City. As a career advisor, Michelle helps students in San Francisco land their dream jobs. Michelle first began hosting in order to pursue her passion: helping other people follow their own passions.

Model Years Mid 1984 and onĪround May of 1984 the system was modified to accommodate new models with different hull designs, V and XT for example. Rather, the month and year are simply designated with normal calendar numbers (e.g. Note: Boats built prior to 1976 do not use the "M" separator, nor do they use a letter to indicate the month of manufacture. In other words, a boat built in July of 1983 would be stamped with a 1984 date.Įxample: a HIN that is HSP688VLM80E is a Vulture built in May of 1980 while a HIN that is HSP425VTM80J is a Vector built in October of 1979. Thus, after June new boats were registered on the MSO (Manufacturer's Statement of Origin) with the following year's date. Like auto manufacturers and many other boat manufacturers, there was a model changeover in mid-calendar year. This HIN would be a V-King ("VG") built in November ("B") of 1982 ("82") Model Year Changeover The last letter is the production month. The next two numbers indicate the production year. The letter "M" (Manufactured) was a separation letter only, and was used by all boat manufacturers until 1984/85. All of the HINs for years 1976 through 1984 have "M" for the next letter. The codes for the various models are listed in the chart below. The next two letters indicate the hull model, in this case "VG" is for Viking. This sequencing continued throughout the years, thus a particular sequence number could be assigned to several different models. At that point, they just start over again at 001. This doesn't tell us too much since HydroStream simply started with the number 001 and ran them to 999. Each number starts out with HSP which stands for HydroStream Pipkorn. If you have a model built between 1976 and early 1984, the HIN will be in the following format: When buying one of these boats, you should always verify that the HIN on the title or registration matches the numbers on the boat. Most boats have more that one HIN stamp from the factory. Take a look underneath the splashwell or underneath the deck of the boat forward of the windshield. Tip: If the transom of your boat has been replaced, the original HIN may have been destroyed or covered up during the restoration. It's stamped on the backside of the transom on the upper starboard side and should also be on the Coast Guard capacity plate and your registration and/or title. Like cars, boats have a "VIN", but unlike cars it's called a "HIN", or Hull Identification Number. Ideally, you’ll be refinancing at a lower rate than you had on the previous mortgage, reducing your monthly bills. While a cash-out refinance can be a great way to pay for costly renovations, you want to make sure you’re getting a good interest rate. You get the difference between those two amounts in cash (hence the term cash-out). With this type of loan, you take out a new mortgage that includes the remaining balance on your original loan, plus the amount you’re borrowing against your equity. If you’ve been paying down your mortgage for a while and have significant equity in your home, you can apply for a cash-out refinance. But they can be useful if you’re not sure how much the renovations are going to cost and you want to pay for exactly as little or as much as you need. HELOCs are typically variable-rate products, which means that your interest rate could increase or drop over time. Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC)Ī HELOC is similar to a home equity loan, but instead of a lump sum, you have a line of credit you can draw on and pay down as needed during the renovations. With a fixed-rate loan, you’ll know exactly how much your monthly payments will be, which helps keep the renovations affordable and gives you clarity when budgeting. If you know exactly how much your renovation will cost or the scope of the project is relatively small, a home equity loan can be a good option, since you can take the amount in a lump sum. Home Equity LoanĪ home equity loan is a fixed-rate loan you borrow against the equity in your house. Here are some of the most common ways to finance major home renovations. The right renovation financing plan for you will depend on how significant the renovations are and how much equity you have in your home. There are several options for financing home renovation projects. The biggest challenge in home renovation is finding the money to pay for it, which can stretch into the tens of thousands of dollars, depending on the type of work being done. This will effectively lengthen the life of the batteries. In my tests it lasted for 56 minutes on level 6 (highest level) but again without any resistance being applied.įrom a workflow perspective you can easily forget about charging after each session knowing you have a fresh battery always ready to go. Their Pro model does include replaceable batteries but it is $200 more.īivi comes with two batteries and a separate charger unit. In addition, just like your phone, that battery is going to continue to degrade with each charge cycle until it will barely hold a charge.įrom a workflow perspective this makes it a little tricky because if you always charge the device after use then you are going to shorten the lifecycle, but you also don't want to pick up a dead Theragun or one the dies half way into your recovery session either. Theragun claims that it lasts 60 minutes, but in my testing I found that it only lasted for about 50 minutes at level 2 (highest level) and that was without any resistance being applied to the unit. The Theragun G3 has one built in battery that is not replaceable. The following are inexpensive and effective noise reduction safety ear muffs that can reduce the dB level by 28dB. Regardless of which device you go with, I would still recommend getting some sound protection. Bivi 95 dB at speed 6 (87 dB at speed 1) Noise test - tested approximately 1 foot from the decibel meter at full speed However, at the end of the day I did some basic sound tests with a decibel meter and the results are as follows: And keep in mind that it isn't a true apples-to-apples comparison either as the Bivi has a higher maximum speed and more speed produces more noise.īivi does advertise the device as being loud and powerful in their description and that is partially why I went with it. On the surface the Theragun is definitely the quieter device, but it is still loud. The Bivi massage gun was $145 to my door. I purchased the Theragun G3 off Amazon for $399 and with tax it came out to $426. One of the clear advantages of the generic percussive devices is they are much more affordable than more name-brand products. Here is how the two devices stack up in their respective categories: If you want the quieter device go with the Theragun. Both devices are good devices and either one should be in your recover toolbox. However, it was louder than the Theragun and the Theragun wins with being able to change tips faster. In short, the Bivi massager is faster (when turned all the way up), lighter, more adjustable (1-6 speeds), comes with two 2 batteries (you will always have a fresh battery), and a head that adjusts 90 degrees so you can target every last place on your body. Everyone is looking to recover faster, feel better, and the lack of time (and cost) for regular massage is being replaced by recovery compression boots, foam rollers, and percussive devices like the Theragun, Hypervolt, and Tim-Tam.Īfter extensive testing I found generic Tim-Tam style massagers (I tested the Bivi) performed better in many categories than the Theragun G3 at nearly 1/3 the price. Recovery devices continue to be all the rage among athletes and non-athletes alike. Theragun is one of the leading percussive recovery massagers on the market, but how does it stack up against more affordable options like the Tim-Tam style of massagers? This percussive review shootout will hopefully answer that and help you make a more informed buying decision. They are open for lunch (they have lunch specials) and dinner 7 days a week. They offer delivery (to Fairport area) and pick-up/take-out. The dining area is not large – about a dozen tables and is quiet. The kitchen must be small because some afternoons you may see staff cutting veggies at a table in the dining room, which may be off-putting for some. Restrooms are down stairs and the restaurant itself is not wheelchair accessible. They will add/delete spicy-ness as requested. Service is good and they bring you hot tea automatically with fried wanton noodles and a sweet orange-flavored dipping sauce. Served over your choice of fried rice or white rice. The presentation of this dish was extra-special with a rose-carved carrot. Sesame Chicken is delicious breaded and fried chunks of chicken served in a sweet sesame sauce and perfectly cooked broccoli. You put the mixture over rice of your choice. Kung Pau Chicken is spicy chicken with peanuts in a nicely thick brown sauce. Very tasty!Ĭhicken Phat Thai is strips of chicken served in a tamarind peanut sauce with fresh bean sprouts and ground peanuts on the side. The pancakes are just thick enough to stand up to the sauce and stuffing. You wrap the pork and scallion in the Hosin-buttered pancake and eat it like Moo Shu. Pork with Peking Sauce is strips of pork served with a tasty Peking sauce, long slices of scallion, a small side dish of Hoisin sauce and pancakes. The Barbeque Spare Ribs (2 or 4) are very good, but the meat is “spare” and it is good that these are finger-licking good. This is served with a sweet cherry sauce that enhances the flavor if you use just a little, but these are great just as they are. They do have a half-dozen fried rice main course dishes, but I haven’t tried those.Ĭrab Rangoons (6) are crispy fried wanton squares filled with delicious crab and creamed cheese folded inside. With all but the noodle dishes, you get a choice of a side of white or fried rice the fried rice is just that – there aren’t any additional ingredients, veggies, etc. It makes it hard to decide, but the Phat Thai, Moo Shu, Kung Pau, Sesame/Orange Chicken/Beef, Shredded Pork with Peking Sauce, and Shrimp with Broccoli are consistently great. The menu has no less than 200 different main dishes! Main courses are served with your choice of steamed or fried rice. Main dishes include several varieties of Lo Mein, Chow Mein Undon Noodles, and Chow Ho/Mai Fun. They have about a dozen kinds of soup and a couple dozen appetizers. The menu has low-fat and gluten-free menus. They serve many types of Asian cuisine (C, J, T, V) and they have. It still is, but the place has made a few changes in the last couple of years. Golden Phoenix has been the go-to Chinese restaurant in the Fairport area for years.

This is something NVIDIA is avoiding with the current generation by developing two "big chips", the GP100, which made its debut with the Tesla P100 HPC accelerator featuring FP64 CUDA cores and exotic HBM2 memory, and the newer GP102 silicon, which is designed keeping in mind consumer graphics and professional graphics applications that don't use double-precision compute. NVIDIA would find itself with unused on-die components - such as FP64 (double-precision) CUDA cores that made their way to GeForce products - making up a bulk of company's sales for the silicon. Earlier, the company would develop a performance-segment chip addressing sub-$600 price-points and one "big chip" based on the architecture with which it powers high-end GeForce products and Quadro (professional graphics) and Tesla (HPC) products. NVIDIA changed tactics to the way it approaches expensive graphics cards with this generation. Second, it adds a bit of ambiguity to whom this product targets as a buyer, letting NVIDIA get away with its steep price tag. First, it adds to the exclusivity of this SKU, elevating TITAN above GeForce. Only NVIDIA's third since GeForce and Riva. This makes "TITAN" a consumer graphics brand unto itself. You'll notice that NVIDIA dropped "GeForce GTX" from its model name, simply calling it the "TITAN X Pascal". The most interesting aspect about this brazenly expensive graphics card is its branding. NVIDIA managed to surprise us nonetheless by announcing its TITAN X Pascal graphics card barely 10 days ago, with market availability beginning 2nd August, 2016 and our review today. A flagship GPU launch by NVIDIA was the last thing we were expecting in the thick of Summer, especially given the market positioning of the GeForce GTX 1080, with some partners running riot with pricing (>$800 prices for some cards) and questionable market availability. The days get longer, 7 hours of sunshine a day, but the temperatures are still low - lows are around 36F and highs around 50F. March is the typical month of slow "transition" from Winter to early Spring. “This is our new reality.Climate, Temperatures and Average Precipitation in New York in March “We can’t say, ‘Well, this is a one-off and maybe it won’t happen again,’” he said. Any place trying to fix this mismatch might not have the basic information it needs, either: The periodic update of national rainfall from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, for instance, won’t arrive for another three to four years, which could keep climate-resilience efforts lagging behind the speed at which the climate is changing.Īs acute and random as these events can feel, Aggarwala warned yesterday against myopia. A recent analysis found that one in nine residents in the contiguous United States is at significant risk of storms that will bring at least 50 percent more water than their local infrastructure can handle-overwhelming the pipes, channels, and culverts that might have met the rainfall records of the past. “The sad reality is that our climate is changing faster than our infrastructure can respond,” Aggarwala said at the same conference.Įxtreme rainfall isn’t just a New York City problem. (Ultimately, Ida dropped 7.2 inches of rain on Central Park and nearly six inches on Prospect Park.) The city’s sewers simply can’t process water that quickly. That’s a pattern that Miami might be accustomed to, maybe Singapore.”Īlready, today’s rainfall, as measured in Central Park, is the worst the city has seen since Ida, Zachary Iscol, the New York City emergency-management commissioner, confirmed at a press conference today. “That’s not a pattern New York City is accustomed to. “That’s our target-not everywhere in the city is up to that standard.” And since Hurricane Ida hit two years ago, there have been at least half a dozen instances in which certain neighborhoods have received two inches or more of rainfall an hour, he said. He also said the 1.75-inches-an-hour standard isn’t met across the board. The problem comes when the changing climate creates conditions that blow through those records. “You always build to the record” when designing infrastructure, Aggarwala said yesterday. New York State Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency, and New York City residents received emergency alerts cautioning them to avoid travel (unless, ominously, they were evacuating), seek high ground, and avoid driving. Mayor Eric Adams said earlier today that the city could receive up to eight inches of rain today parts of Brooklyn saw a month’s worth of rain in just three hours. Less than 24 hours after Aggarwala’s statements, rain arrived in New York City-the kind that sends waterfalls through Brooklyn subway ceilings, dangerously floods basements, and floats cars on the road like rubber ducks. “We now have in New York something much more like a tropical-rainfall pattern,” Rohit Aggarwala, New York City’s environmental-protection commissioner, said yesterday at The Atlantic Festival. And it wasn’t built to handle the kind of extreme rainfall that is becoming routine: The city flooded last December, last April, and last July-an unusual seasonal span. It wasn’t built to handle the rainfall from Hurricane Irene, Hurricane Sandy, or, more recently, Hurricane Ida-which dumped 3.15 inches an hour on Central Park. New York City’s sewer system is built for the rain of the past-when a notable storm might have meant 1.75 inches of water an hour.
